Main Advantages of Using SLIM Over Faceting Based on Generic Model
💎 LGD — Gain per 1 Ct polish: ₹150 total 💎 ND — Gain per 1 Ct polish: ₹1,650 total
Advantage Gain per 1 Ct polish LGD (₹) Gain per 1 Ct polish ND (₹)
Follow the final plan – Less mistake from polisher
Uniform allowance of as small as 200 microns on all facets
Reduced polishing time – higher production – low polishing labour 60 120
Complete all facets including all pavilion facets
Reduces laser damage as every facet start is correctly aligned and focused 60 1,500
Higher productivity – 20% less machines are required 30 30
Direct saving of INR 63 per piece (not included in total)
EXTRA INDIRECT BENEFITS — TOTAL 150 1,650
⚠️ Current Flow (MESM + Generic Model)
1Use MESM model for shaping and faceting
2Laser mark Table plane, Girdle plane and Shape from pavilion
3Use setting station to glue the diamond – crown inside the glue
4Set diamond tilt by bending the pin (manual operation)
5Set the diamond on laser machine, define table plane, girdle plane and shape outline
6Start the process. Auto sequence is as under:
→ The axis will tilt to start the first pavilion facet
→ Plane is defined, but start point is not known. Operator will focus the culet area to start first pavilion facet cutting
→ All pavilion facets are done one by one from the narrowest point
→ Tilt the diamond to cut girdle facets, focus on junction of faceted pavilion facet
→ Cut all Girdle facets one by one OR curved shape by Galvo
→ Tilt to cut Crown facets, focus on junction of Girdle facet and Crown
→ Cut all Crown facets one by one. Part of crown is hidden behind glue
→ The table facet cannot be cut, as it is hidden behind the glue
⚠ Negatives of Current Flow
All pavilion facets start from a narrow point — cutting not optimized, higher damage risk
Galvo not focusing on long start facet — much higher chances of damage
The diamond has to be laser marked after it reaches Makeable stage
Sawing time longer than required — laser starts from culet, ends at Girdle
✅ Proposed Flow with SLIM
1Glue the diamond on Laser machine special holder
2Scan the diamond on SLIM
3Get file to be transferred to the laser sawing machine
4Place the diamond stage in the laser sawing machine
5Start the process of making all the facets in one go
✅ NO OPERATOR INTERVENTION — Except applying whitener
✅ Key Benefits of SLIM Flow
Fully automated facet execution — no operator skill dependency mid-process
Uniform 200-micron allowance on every facet eliminates polisher error
All facets including table facet are cut — no hidden surfaces due to glue
Every facet start correctly aligned and focused — reduced laser damage
No separate laser marking step required after Makeable stage
Optimized sawing path — starts from correct facet edge, not from culet
